Prebiotics

Definition of Prebiotics

Prebiotics are non-digestible substances found in certain foods that promote the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in the gut. These substances act as food for probiotic bacteria, stimulating their development and strengthening the gut microbiota.

Prebiotics are important for maintaining a healthy balance in the digestive system and have been shown to have positive effects on health, such as:

  • Improving digestion
  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Preventing intestinal diseases

Some examples of foods rich in prebiotics are bananas, onions, asparagus, and fermented foods such as yogurt and kefir.
